We welcome back Lily back to The BodyHoliday! Lily started Yoga in 1999 and has been teaching for over 11 years. Lily’s background in competitive swimming, passion for snowboarding and surfing drew her to the more vigorous style of Yoga, Ashtanga. Her training began with Iyengar and moved onto other styles of Yoga. She has studied with various renowned teachers from all over the world and has also traveled to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Lily loves to teach flow Vinyasa classes that challenge the core and balance mind and body as a whole. Her knowledge of anatomy ensures that a detailed explanation of correct alignment principles is woven throughout her instructions and she brings an energetic yet lighthearted approach to her classes. Lily teaches many variations to each pose. Her classes suit all levels.
Lily’s Classes include:
Hatha: This class is typically a gentle style of yoga and slow-paced best for beginners. In this class you will learn basic alignment principles, simple breathing exercises and meditation.
Ashtanga: Also known as Power Yoga, this practice incorporates an intense flow of postures to build strength of body and mind. Ashtanga is both for those who have been practicing for a while and for those who do not have a regular practice that like a challenge and fast paced class. This flow helps to increase concentration, flexibility and strength. Variations are taught for each posture to suit students of all levels.
Vinyasa: This class will focus on linking breath to movement; each class is focused on fluid transitions between poses. Your request is appreciated as Lily can organize a sequence of poses to suit your needs; be it for shoulders, hips, low back and whatever your needs are that day! This class promotes a proper balance of strength, endurance and flexibility.
Restorative: The essence of both meditation and yoga is surrender. This class will link meditative principles and classical restorative yoga poses helping the practitioner to quiet down the busy mind and embrace a flowing sense of stillness. Props are used in various poses facilitating a deep release of stress, calming and quieting the mind.
Pre-Natal: Pre-natal Yoga classes offer a gentle and flowing class for pregnant women. This class will focus on postures that support, tone and strengthen the pregnant body. Pre-natal helps to alleviate some discomforts of pregnancy such as backache and ankle swelling. This class is appropriate for women new to yoga and experienced students.
Bowen Therapy: The Bowen Technique is a non-invasive, hands-on modality that has for the last 20 years become the treatment of choice for people worldwide. The therapy can be administered through light clothing, standing, sitting or lying. Gentle moves performed primarily with fingers and thumbs over tendons, ligaments, muscles and soft tissue on specific points on the body help to release stress on a deep level and stimulate the body to realign. There are pauses throughout the session to allow the body to respond and begin the healing process. Results are noticeable after the first session and often only a few sessions are required to correct the presenting problem. Bowen Therapy is a whole body therapy.
Bowen Therapy is a treatment for injuries in the body. It is NOT a form of exercise.

Dr. Samantha Semmalar
Dr. Samantha is a graduate in yogic and natural medicine. She has been working as a yoga instructor and wellness consultant for seven years in various wellness centers in India. Her goal is to train the human body on how to improve the immunity in natural ways to fight against disease and disorders. She teaches rejuvenate, restorative and therapeutic yoga. Her classes include Hatha yoga, Prana yoga, Pranayama, Disease oriented yogic therapy, Chakra and visualized meditation, Transcendental meditation which promotes clearer thinking, decreased cardiovascular risk factors, increased longevity and more. Her therapies; Hydrotherapy, Acupuncture and Reflexology and Panchakarma help to prevent disease and to preserve good health. In addition she is also a Henna Art Designer; you can give your hands to her to have traditional Indian henna design and Arabic henna art.
Samantha’s Classes include:
Traditional Hatha Yoga for Beginners: This class consists of joint movements, sun salutations followed by yoga postures in standing, sitting, supine and prone lying positions. It helps to develop balance of body and mind. Refreshes the body by relieving muscle strain.
Traditional Hatha Yoga Level: This class consists of loosening exercises, joint movements, sun salutations followed by a set of traditional Hatha yoga postures in standing, sitting, supine and prone lying positions. It helps to develop balance of the body and mind, increase flexibility and joint mobility. It also helps to reinforce the strength of spine & improves body flexibility. Samantha presents a surprisingly modern and practical take on ancient asana, pranayama, meditation, bandhas and mudras.
Prana Yoga – Vital energy: Gently flowing class incorporating various yogic postures synchronized with breathing (deep inhalation – holding – slow exhalation). It gives a feeling of accomplishment, clarity of mind, vitality & tranquility.
Shanthi Yoga—Restorative: This session has deep relaxation techniques called Yoga Nidra. This class helps to minimize the tension, relaxes and clears up the unconscious, awakens creativity.
The Breath Extension Yoga (Pranayama) or the Yogic Breathing: This promotes proper breathing which can bring more oxygen to the blood and the brain, and control Prana; the vital life energy. This class consists of breathing techniques and ends with relaxation.
Sunrise Yoga: Sunrise yoga helps to start your day with a feeling of grace and gratitude towards the sun energy. This class concentrates on sun salutations and ends with deep relaxation.
Sunset Yoga: Sunset yoga is actually the moon yoga. It involves repetitions of moon salutations and ends with deep relaxation. Moon salutations can be cooling and calming. They are used to calm the mind and draw your awareness inward. Moon Salutations are useful when energy or temperatures are high and a tranquil atmosphere is required.
Hirudhaya Yoga – for Healthy Heart: Cardio vascular yoga is good for type-A personalities and helps relieve stress, reduce inflammation, regulate blood pressure and promote physical activity and endurance.
Katti Yoga – for Hip & Spine: This yoga helps to correct & maintain the natural curvature of the spine. There will be specific postures to strengthen the back and abdominal muscles and help the body maintain a proper upright posture and movement. It eases back pain by stretching and strengthening the muscles of the back. It increases blood circulation and brings healing nutrients to the injured tissues and rejuvenates the spinal nerves.
Yang Yoga – Yoga for Women: In Yang yoga postures are taught to increase range of motion, strength and endurance. Postures improve the functions of gastrointestinal system, endocrine system and also reproductive and menstrual related problems. It ends with relaxation.
Hara Yoga – Yoga for Gastro Intestinal Health: Some yoga Asanas are very helpful in common stomach problems like indigestion and acidity among others and a few more. This helps to detoxify your body as well as stimulate digestion. Yoga balances all systems of the human anatomy by massaging the glands and organs of the body. Massaging specific internal organs can stimulate the glandular system that causes diabetes. Organs such as the pancreas and other endocrine glands are activated when they are stretched or compressed initiating an increase in the volume of oxygenated blood to the cells
Amanda was initially introduced to (and enamored by) yoga during her travels throughout South East Asia. Since then she has continued her own practice and discovered a great deal. Her classes emphasize body awareness and relaxation, not just attaining the perfect posture.

Charlie has been practising yoga for 12 years, initially from a work-out perspective. Following a life-changing trip to the Himalayan Yoga Institute in India, she decided to leave the corporate rat race and deepen her knowledge of yoga further.

Victoria’s background and training in ballet was instrumental in taking up yoga because of a desire to maintain flexibility whilst also building strength. With almost 10 years of practicing different forms of yoga she now teaches a variety of styles of yoga and enjoys providing a range of classes.

Olivia has a degree in choreography and was exposed to yoga whilst in college. Her background in dance, acrobatics and yoga are all fused in her classes. Olivia offers classes in Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Yoga Rythm, Restorative Yoga and Sports Yoga.

Meg Jackson will be with The BodyHoliday from October 2011 to March 2012. She has been practicing yoga for ten years and is a qualified Yoga Alliance Certified teacher. Her teaching is designed to assist students from beginner all the way to advanced level. She specializes in Ashtanga Yoga and also uses it as inspiration for her Yoga-Flow and Restorative practices.

Dr. Abhishek Jain leads the yoga team. Abhishek is our Indian yoga teacher and has practiced and taught the traditional Hatha Yoga method for over 14 years. He is trained and certified by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India. His classes embody the sequential practice of sun salutation, asanas, pranayama, relaxation and meditation. The aim of his teachings is to help you achieve higher levels of self-awareness and deeper relaxation.

Kathryn Cullen is a Master Trainer in Body Balance, who has studied yoga for over 20 years. She combines various disciplines from her yoga studies into her classes. Her classes are suitable for all levels of yogi practioners. Kathryn is one of The BodyHoliday’s Master Yoga instructors for this year’s Yoga June retreat.

The BodyHoliday is pleased to welcome Michael Bailey back this year as a presenting master yoga instructor for Yoga June. Michael Bailey brings with him a wealth of experience amassed over 20 years ago when he started his journey. He’s an innovator who has developed a sequence of movements in which his students can move through various asanas with a very easy flow of movements.

Trevor Laurency has over 17 years of experience as a fitness and holistic instructor. He broadened his studies on yoga throughout the years and obtained a Master Yoga Diploma plus a diploma in Yogalates. Trevor led his Master Classes in Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Yogaletes, YogaTone and Meditation from April 29th to May 15th, 2011.

Agustin visited The BodyHoliday briefly in the beginning of 2011. He is an ex-professional athlete who discovered yoga at first as therapy in Hong Kong. He has studied around the world and so brings a wealth of international experience to our resort. His interests range from Hatha, Asthanga, Acro- Yoga, Thai Massage to Hatha Raja Yoga, covering all aspects of the traditional and modern yoga.
