Jive June’s resident ballroom supremo Kele Baker is the Argentine Tango choreographer for BBC’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing, having worked with numerous celebrities including Mark Ramprakash, Kara Tointon, Harry Judd, Alesha Dixon, Natalie Gumede, Jason Donovan, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and many others.
Kele’s television work also includes appearances as master teacher on Dancing on Ice (ITV), Would Like to Meet (BBC), Tell It To Me Straight (Channel 4) and Diet on the Dance Floor (Living TV), as well as dance choreographer and coordinator for Darren Boyd’s Little Cracker (Sky 1), Up The Women, Joe’s Palace, Travels With My Tutu and The Dancer’s Body (all BBC).
In the UK, Kele has choreographed for stage productions and exhibitions, including No Exit (Southwark Playhouse), Macbeth (Open Theatre Group), and the London Erotica exhibition’s Dance Seduction (working with Andrew Cuerden). She has also taught master classes for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and numerous corporate groups. Currently Kele is movement director for a new adaptation and production of Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast (Carabosse Theatre Group).
In addition, Kele is the co-author of Strictly Come Dancing: Step-By-Step Dance Class, a beginner’s guide to learning ballroom and Latin dancing, published by BBC Books.
Passionate about trees and their importance in our lives, Kele is the founder and organiser of Dance Al Fresco – an annual series of outdoor social dance events that raise funds for The Royal Parks Foundation for tree planting in London’s Regent’s Park.
